The journey begins among the palm-filled towns, farms, and traditional markets of Al Qassim before continuing north by train to Ha’il. This swift passage between the two regions offers a changing view of the Najdi landscape, connecting cultivated oases with open plains, volcanic terrain, sandstone mountains, and vast desert horizons.

In Al Qassim, life has long been sustained by fertile oases, date cultivation, trade, and carefully managed agriculture. Its towns grew into important centres of exchange, known for their merchants, markets, generous homes, and distinctive Najdi cuisine. Visits to farms, heritage houses, and local communities reveal how agriculture and hospitality became central to the region’s identity.

Further north, Ha’il unfolds as a landscape of striking geological and cultural contrasts. Explore the mountains of Aja and Salma, volcanic craters formed by the region’s ancient geological activity, and areas known for naturally occurring semi-precious stones. These landscapes reveal another side of Northern Najd, where the history of the land can be read through lava fields, mineral colours, rock formations, and the materials gathered and used by local communities.

Ha’il is also deeply associated with poetry, storytelling, and the legendary generosity of Hatim Al Tai. Its position along historic trade and pilgrimage routes made it an important meeting point for travellers, merchants, and cultures moving across the peninsula.

At Jubbah, ancient carvings spread across sandstone cliffs offer an extraordinary record of animals, movement, belief, and daily life. These images connect the present landscape to communities that lived here thousands of years ago, revealing Northern Najd as a place of continuous settlement, movement, and cultural exchange.
